Nathan Wallace started Hold Your Own with the intention to give people who want to focus on heavy lifting a place to train uninterrupted.

“I wanted to offer a training facility for strength and conditioning where people felt comfortable lifting heavy weights and having plenty of racks and floor space,” he said.

“We’re more based on strength and body composition rather than a commercial type gym that does a little bit of everything.

“We’re the best of both worlds in that we can offer specialty fitness 24/7 so people can train heavy whenever they like.”

Nathan said Hold Your Own has “a lot of stuff that other gyms don’t have.”

“We have five power racks whereas most gyms only have one or two; we have three lifting platforms, which means plenty of rooms for dead lifts,” he said.

“We have dumbbells up to 80kgs, competition benches and also a 20 metre sled track.

“My wife, Sophie Guidolin and I have one year old twins ourself and we understand the importance of family and lifestyle so we also have a dedicated kids room for the little ones.”

“I’ve always pushed a fun environment for everyone and our trainers always encourage people in the way of helping each other, being supportive and being there for each other,” Mathew said.

“It’s the Price family — if you train with us, you become part of the family.”

The real test of a good gym is when people feel comfortable and people are more likely to reach their fitness goals when they genuinely enjoy what they’re doing.

“I think it’s important because people actually enjoy going to the gym, they don’t feel scared,” Mat said.

“Some people will say they’ve never been happy to walk into a gym but they like to atmosphere at Price.

“It doesn’t matter if they need some fitness or they’ve been training forever — nobody feels left out.”

Directors Cody Philp and Amanda Hamlyn run HIIT Burleigh, a centre dedicated to transforming their clients using high intensity interval training.

“High intensity interval training is a new way of fat burning and the idea is to raise the heart rate as high as you can then lowering it,” Amanda said.

“We run 8 week transformation challenges and high intensity group classes.

“We do one on ones but more of what we do is group focused.”

Cody said there’s a heavy focus on giving great nutritional advice in addition to providing an environment for people to get fit and motivated.

“After the challenges finish we don’t just tell people good luck and be on your way,” he said.

“And we’re not so much just to showing people how to lose fat, we’ve got people who have gone from already pretty lean to shredded and teaching them on proper nutrition — pre and post shred.

“We’re not a fight gym but we also do Muay Thai which is a lot of fun, hitting pads and getting fit, but we also focus on proper technique.”

Ian D’Andrade started Never Quit Gym after training and researching in a wide range of fitness types — a seriously wide range.

“My whole life I have been experimenting with fitness; over the years I have trained and studied in weight training, yoga, pilates, boxing, functional fitness, circuit training, meditation, gymnastics, rehabilitation, athletic performance and more,” he said.

“I’ve taken what I believe to be the best practices of each to build result producing workouts that truly get people into the best shape of their lives.

“A combination of all these different disciplines allows for amazing variety which keep our members engaged and progressing without plateauing.”

Ian’s business partner Luke Halliday came on board about six months ago to continue developing the Never Quit philosophy, which Ian says is all about helping people reach their goals.

“I started Never Quit with the intention of helping as many people with health and fitness as possible,” Ian said.

“I wanted to create an environment where people had fun, felt supported and were empowered to reach their goals.

“From the first endorphin rush, to the feeling of personal achievement, the sense of community and being pushed to be limits all while having the time of their lives.”

“We want the time members spend with us to be a highlight of their day.”

Ian said he prides himself on being unlike any other gym on the Coast and is constantly reminded of this when he sees his clients progress.

“Our clients tell us that when they had memberships at other traditional gyms they lacked motivation and guidance, we take care of that for them,” he said.

“Every single person that walks through the door is important to us, we take time to make sure each member is focused and have the correct tools to reach their goals.

”You can see that they feel part of the Never Quit family — everyone is here to help each other.”

With an obvious passion for his gym, his clients and the industry as a whole, Ian wanted to thank his Never Quit family for this achievement.

“The support from everyone is unbelievable, they really believe in what we do,” he said.
