2020 predictions: What's going to happen to the share market and economy?

DANIEL Weuffen set himself a challenge 11 years ago – to be the Gold Coast’s best tradie.

“I remember seeing an article in the Bulletin that a plumber won the best Gold Coast tradie and I said to myself ‘I will have to win that before my time is up’,” the iPlumb Solutions owner said.

The Carrara plumber’s dream came true last week when he won the Bulletin’s Gold Coast Best Tradie 2020 competition.

The public gave hundreds of reviews on Facebook and Bulletin subscribers chose a winner from 15 finalists.

Mr Weuffen beat commercial electrician Tysen Urry, Joe Driessens from AMP’D Electrical and Solar, Nick Owens from Crystal Waters Plumbing and Drainage, and Baden Knight from Smart Chill Airconditioning and Refrigeration.

Mr Weuffen said he “was speechless and could not wait to tell his wife and kids” after hearing news of the win.

“I am not a big city kid, so to win something like this is pretty cool,” he said.

“But my aim really is to inspire my kids Lexi and Hunter, and the next generation of tradies.”

iPlumb Solutions client Ashley Forster said the father of two was “very deserving of this title” because he was a great fault-finder.

After finishing his apprenticeship in 2009 Mr Weuffen “flipped a coin, got in his ute and came to the Gold Coast for a fresh start”.

“I did my apprenticeship with one boss back in my hometown Ouyen in Victoria,” he said.

“I met my wife and we started this business.

“But bottom line – I love being a plumber.

“Importantly, I encourage young and old to do a apprenticeship, you will not regret it.

“We need more tradies.”
