“People love seeing what they’ve created at the end,” Chloe says.

The Eden team offers the full gamut of floral services but particularly loves working with brides to create perfect wedding bouquets and theming.

This boutique florist goes to great lengths to source special blooms — its roses come from Columbia, its tropicals from Cairns, lilies from Byron Bay and greenery from a farm near Hinze Dam.

Owner Leanne Jeffrey says her trademark same-day delivery big bouquets are super-popular. “They’re the type where you can barely see the delivery man standing behind them,” she says. “They just take your breath away.”

Skeleton Leaf owner Charlotte Townley prefers a classic approach to the time-honoured trade of floristry.

“I just thought the Gold Coast needed a ‘back to basics’ florist with tasteful arrangements and gift-wares such as beautiful soy candles, indoor plants and other locally made products, rather than filled with blue and pink teddy bears, balloons and bright orange cellophane wrapping,” she says.

“We try to stay on trend, especially with our wedding work, but still keeping true to our vintage, rustic style.

“We prefer a natural and earthy feel to our work. Although we do enjoy pushing the boundaries a little, adding a contemporary twist every now and then.”

5. Moss n Stone

Moss n Stone has changed ownership since being announced as a finalist in last year’s Best of the Gold Coast florists, but customers can still expect the same level of service and quality.

“The reason I bought the florist was I knew it had such a good credibility in the florist world,” Sandy Foran says.

“I knew the base of the business was very grounded and a little bit different.”

Sandy caters to each customers’ taste by letting them decide on their flowers and offers a selection of handmade gifts.

“We’re strongly focused on customer service, and high quality flowers, we use only the freshest of the freshest,” Sandy says.

“Customers are able to choose their stem, and we make up an arrangement and bouquet to what they require.

“We do a lot in the corporate and wedding world, we’re known for our giftware, including a large range of handmade candles, made exclusively for Moss n Stone.”

4. Nesst, Gold Coast

Delivery only

Nesst began as a hobby for former make-up artist turned accidental florist Ness Scharkie.

“In 2011 I was a make-up artist and I just wanted to make my own flower crowns,” Ness says.

“Then these boutiques were asking me to make some flower crowns for their websites, and brides were asking for them.

“So I was self-taught in making crowns, then I did an intro TAFE course in flowers, and I’ve made it work form there. It happened organically.”

Ness has a unique take on her flower arrangements, combining traditional with modern through her online delivery business.

“I wouldn’t say it’s wild, but I wouldn’t say it’s traditional. It’s perfectly imperfect,” she says.

“I like a perfect mix of natives and delicate, so I love eucalyptus, I love the silver tones in them, but I like to use that with roses and carnations.”

THE TOP 10 BEST BUFFETS ON THE COAST

Wild Lotus owner Imogen Hobbins’ favourite event to make arrangements for might be a little unconventional to some, but not so in the florist world.

“I really like doing funerals,” she says.

“I know that’s awful. I say that because people that are going through that are little bit more appreciative.

“But I’m also a wedding specialist, I love doing arbours.”

Imogen says she loves sharing her passion for the natural world with people, preferring a more sustainable approach to her business.

“I’m very much in to nature, I’m a vegetarian, I love flowers,” she says.

“I get so cross at people who hate their job. You have to do something you love.

“I like things to be wild and natural. I don’t use plastics, or teddy bears. Everything is brown paper and twine.”

2. Flowers, Tea and Gifts

14b/99 Kennedy Dr, Tweed Heads

Alicia Broom was surprised to learn her business had been voted in the top 10, but says she’s thrilled with the result.

“When it comes to customers, I think they love us (the staff),” she says.

“I’ve got great products, but we get a lot of returns. We try to remember their names, and what they’ve ordered previously.”

As name suggests, Alicia sells not only bouquets but loose leaf tea and gifts as well.

“We do normal style flowers for daily orders, we’ve also got the roses that last a year to five years. They’re one of my signature things,” Alicia says.

“We do products you’d find at David Jones and Myer, tea cups and gifts, loose leaf tea. Who doesn’t love flowers and a bit of tea?”

Flowers on Tedder has done it again, winning top spot in the Best of the Gold Coast 2018 florists.

Owner Margot de Groot said last year’s win opened up more opportunities to connect with customers and the community.

“That was a tremendous, fantastic happening for us in our first year to be named best florist,” she said.

Flowers on Tedder owner Margot de Groot says she likes to keep her florist shop very tidy.

“That really did help us to increase the trust and the confidence in the community.”

Margot says she and her team take a lot of pride in keeping the shop tidy and maintaining a sophisticated image when flowers head off to their destination.

“Every morning all of the flowers are properly conditioned, vases are sparkling, it shows obvious care,” she says.

“I’m a stickler for cleanliness. And I use all environmentally friendly cleaning products.

“We take a lot of time making sure the flowers presented beautifully, but also they’re wrapped with beautiful satin ribbons. Everything that leaves the shop is an advertisement for it.”

While Margot divides her time between running the floristry and working as a lawyer in Brisbane, she says she’s determined to maintain the title of being the best in the region.
