A WELL-KNOWN Gold Coast butchery has been named the best in the business this Christmas.
Celebrity chef Matt Preston put the call out last week for the Best Christmas Butcher or Deli on the Gold Coast, and Bulletin readers crowned Cav’s Butchery in Biggera Waters as the winner.
Gold Coasters said goodbye to Cav’s iconic Labrador site in October after construction for the Arleen Residences, a 13-storey tower with 79 units, was ready to take over.
Founder and owner Richard Cavill said despite the big move to Hollywell Road six weeks ago, he had noticed a 25 per cent increase in clientele.
“It’s been really busy and our Christmas products have been really popular — we are not sure how we are going to cope next week,” he laughed.
“We have a lot of new friends visiting the butchery and we are excited to be named one of the best butchers in the region.
“I encourage everyone to drop in and say hello and give CJ (Cav’s iconic fake cow statue) a pat.”

Richard Cavill opened Cav’s steakhouse in 1984 when he was 21-years-old.
He then opened an adjoining purpose-built butchery in 2004, which sells produce from the restaurant menu fresh to take home.
Cav’s Steakhouse beat strong competition from Gold Coast Fresh Meat Centre, Southern Cross Organic Butchery, Nobbys Beach Gourmet Meats and CV Beef.
Mr Cavill said his business was the best on the Coast because he “puts his customers first and rigorously check his products”.
