Students at one of the Gold Coast’s most renowned private schools could soon be dining in style if a proposed new building goes ahead.
Emmanuel College in Carrara on May 17 applied to council for permission to build a three-storey senior school building, complete with a swish new canteen at the ground level.
The school said the “state of the art” facility would include:
* Cutting-edge learning facilities.
* A 190-seat theatrette
* Commercial-grade hospitality classrooms.
* And a “beautiful new canteen” offering “a variety of healthy and delicious food options”.
The new building, to be built in three stages, would upgrade and replace the existing senior school and canteen.
Although it will be significantly bigger than the existing facilities, documents submitted to council stated it was not being proposed to cater for greater student numbers.
“The proposed development will not result in any significant increase in staff or student capacity beyond modest fluctuations expected for a school, will not result in significant increase in parking or traffic demand,” the application stated.
Emmanuel College principal Dan Brown said that the proposed new building was designed to provide an environment in which students would thrive.
“At Emmanuel College, we believe in nurturing the whole person,” he said. “This new building will offer innovative spaces that encourage collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking, within an environment where students and staff feel valued and supported.”
Last year it was announced that Emmanuel’s sister school Josiah College, which provides a tailored educational program for children with autism spectrum disorder, was expanding to allow students to remain until Year 12.
The move meant students were able to complete their Queensland Certificate of Education at the school.
Emmanuel College, where annual fees range from $10,860 to $12,968, consistently rates among the top schools on the Gold Coast in NAPLAN results.
