One of the Gold Coast’s top principals at one of its most popular schools is calling it a day.
Broadbeach State School principal Bruce Langes will retire from the school’s top job at the end of Term One in 2025 to allow for a transition to his successor.
He will leave after serving nearly eight years in the role.
Mr Langes said he would retire to spend more time with his wife Linda.
“My decision is for personal reasons, the most prominent of which is the growing number of birthdays I have accumulated,” he said in a letter to parents.
“It has been an honour to serve and lead Broadbeach State School since my appointment in 2017.
“I am proud of the achievements of our students and the remarkable team of people who deliver on our vision of ‘excellence for all’ every day.
“I will welcome the opportunity to introduce the incoming principal and, to engage with them, in the weeks leading up to my departure.
“Between now and the end of Term One, I anticipate that there will be opportunities to reflect with the members of the community on our shared experiences at Broadbeach State School (and) I look forward to these connections.”
Mr Langes was appointed to head Broadbeach in 2017 after a long teaching career which also saw him served as principal of Gilston State School.
He led the school through the difficulties of the pandemic years and oversaw its strong NAPLAN results.
Mr Langes said he would work closely with his leadership team to ensure a seamless transition to his successor early in the new year.
He praised the staff of the school, which is one of the Gold Coast’s busiest.
“I am aware that for some of you, the thought of a change of principal may generate a level of trepidation and consequently assure you of the confidence I have in our existing leadership team,” he said.
“The incoming principal will be fortunate to inherit the wisdom and guidance of this highly skilled and cohesive group of educators.
“Their deep understanding of our context and the inherent complexities associated, will be pivotal to maintaining focus and equilibrium through the transition.
“Furthermore, I will leave assured that the dedicated and aligned teaching team, ably supported by the personnel who maintain the environment, systems and processes, will continue to inspire your children to exceptional outcomes.”
