Broadbeach nightclub going off on a Tuesday as filming for Netflix series continues on the Gold Coast

Punters were so confused by the new posters plastered near the club’s entrance, owners had to put a call out letting everyone know it wasn’t going through a name change.

SAY woo hoo! Logie-winning comedian Chris Lilley’s in da club — in Broadbeach.

Popular Broadbeach nightclub Platinum was transformed into a location set as filming for Sydney writer, actor and comedian Lilley’s new Netflix TV comedy series continues on the Gold Coast.

The top-secret shoot for Lilley’s highly anticipated, as-yet untitled new project bumped into the popular underground nightclub in Niecon Plaza, along Broadbeach Mall, on Monday and Tuesday.

Series writer and director Lilley, 43, and his cast and crew set up a unit production base in nearby Kurrawa Park for the two-day shoot. Actors and extras dressed as clubbers marched from the park along Victoria Ave to the plaza before being ushered into the club’s back entry to avoid prying eyes.

The signs outside Platinum were covered over as the club become a fictional hotspot for the shoot — prompting the venue’s owners to explain what was going on in a post on Instagram.

“Platinum Nightclub has not gone under a name change for those that have seen the posters out the front of the venue the last 2 days,” the post read.

“The venue has been hired to a production company for filming. We will be back to normal operation this weekend with Jordan Burns Friday night and Tigerlily on Saturday.

“We look forward to seeing you all over the weekend. Thank you Platinum Nightclub.”

The shoot follows the appearance of an ad last month looking for TV extras aged 20 to 30 years old for a Broadbeach location shoot on April 30 and May 1.

Filming on the 10-episode series, a Netflix co-production, began on the Coast in March and is expected to continue until late June.

The production, which has also visited Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads, will employ up to 250 local cast and extras, around 100 local crew and tip more than $6 million into the local economy.

Lilley and co-producer Laura Waters are best known for the ABC comedy series We Can Be Heroes, Summer Heights High, Ja’mie: Private School Girl and Jonah from Tonga.
