A GOLD Coast club more renowned for beach parties is taking Melbourne Cup celebrations from the turf and giving it a bit of a sea-change.
Komune Resort & Beach Club have announced they will be throwing their first Melbourne Cup knees-up — at their poolside venue in Coolangatta.
In past years staff have been given the day off to hit the track for their annual Christmas party celebrations but this year they have decided to host their own fun.

Komune events manager Tari Peterson says people have been asking them to do it for a “very long time” and expect 500 people to celebrate at the southern venue.

“Every year when the staff are there (at the races) our regulars will come up to us and say ‘Why aren’t we doing it at Komune?’,” she says.
Peterson says it will be sponsored by Gordon Pink Gin who are supplying a giant outdoor LED screen to watch the race on measuring four metres.

Instead of the typical race day fashion on the fields, the club will be hosting ‘Fashion by the Pool’.
Guests can enter themselves to show off their frocks and suits on the catwalk but there will also be a models section for bikinis.
“We will have fashion shows on our floating runway, which will be a bit of fun,” Peterson says.
The best dressed guy and girl will win a $50 bar tab.
“We are having a VIP after-party event as well in the penthouse. The winners and their friends will get tickets but the ones who get there first on the day will be the first ones to a ticket.”
Tickets are $20 and include a drink and food. This year’s Melbourne Cup will be held on Tuesday November 5.
