Gold Coast night-life: Look inside Gold Coast’s new nightclub

A Gold Coast nightclub is finally ready to open after numerous setbacks. Take a sneak peek at the unusual interior.

FROM Friday, the Gold Coast’s newest nightclub will welcome the public into its jungle-themed venue after months of hiccups interrupted its opening.

Lost Kingdom nightclub offered The Bulletin a glimpse inside the new facility, to showcase what people will see when they walk through the Surfers Paradise venue’s doors from 9pm Friday.

The club was set to open on the Gold Coast after a $1.5 million redevelopment by leading hospitality operator Hallmark Group in March but was forced to push back the date when COVID-19 impacted the hospitality industry.

The new venue then announced it’ll be making its debut on party strip Orchid Ave on July 24 but the opening was again delayed after it had to change its name.

Originally named Tane nightclub – pronounced Tah-ney – after the Polynesian god of forests and birds, backlash from the community forced a rebranding.

Gold Coast restaurant owners reveal struggle to keep their heads above water

A Hallmark Group spokesperson – which also runs Retros and Asylum nightclubs on the same stretch plus Irish bar Finn McCool’s on Cavill Ave – said while it was never its intention to offend any culture with the original venue name, it made the decision to change it.

Lost Kingdom manager Darren Gaffney said the venue, which features lush greenery and bamboo, will remain the same.

“We wanted to bring something unique to the Gold Coast and I think it’s really different to anything on offer,” he said.

“We had to do something completely different to capture a different kind of market.

“It’ll be a full-on nightclub experience, where you can let your inhabitations go and dance the night away.

“We’ve spent months waiting to open but obviously COVID has happened, so it has given us an opportunity to plan more.”

The club will be open for 100 patrons but once COVID-19 social distancing restrictions lift, it can host up to 350 guests.
