Ozzy Osbourne has made a rare public appearance amid his ongoing battle with Parkinson’s disease.
The legendary rocker was seen getting in some exercise as walked around his affluent Beverly Hills neighbourhood in Los Angeles this week with a woman who appeared to be his carer.
The 74-year-old walked unassisted without his trusty cane, persevering despite looking unbalanced at times during his walk.
The outing comes two months after the Black Sabbath frontman was forced to cancel his upcoming concerts and end his decades-long touring career.
In a heartbreaking Instagram post, Osbourne told fans a series of corrective operations has rendered him “not physically capable of doing my upcoming European/UK tour dates”.
“As you may all know, four years ago, this month, I had a major accident, where I damaged my spine,” he began. “My one and only purpose during this time has been to get back on stage. My singing voice is fine. However, after three operations, stem cell treatments, endless physical therapy sessions, and most recently groundbreaking Cybernics (HAL) Treatment, my body is still physically weak.”
“Believe me when I say that the thought of disappointing my fans really F***ed ME UP, more than you will ever know,” he added. “Never would I have imagined that my touring days would have ended this way.”
It was in 2020 that Osbourne first revealed he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in an emotional Good Morning America interview with his wife, Sharon Osbourne, by his side.
“It has been terribly challenging for us,” he said at the time, while referencing his fall in 2019. “I had to have surgery on my neck which screwed all my nerves. I found out that I have a mild form of …”
As he trailed off, Sharon finished his sentence: “It’s PRKN 2, which is a form of Parkinson’s. There are so many different types of Parkinson’s – it’s not a death sentence by any stretch of the imagination, but it does affect certain nerves in your body. And it’s – it’s like you have a good day, a good day, and then a really bad day.”
Ozzy said he was now on a host of medication, including taking nerve pills.
“I got a numbness down this arm for the surgery, my legs keep going cold,” he said. “I don’t know if that’s the Parkinson’s or what, you know, but that’s – see, that’s the problem. Because they cut nerves when they did the surgery. I’d never heard of nerve pain, and it’s a weird feeling.”
