Sydney Sweeney has shared footage of herself screaming and crying on-set in Australia, with the star revealing what happened to trigger the extreme reaction.

Footage has emerged of Sydney Sweeney screaming in terror while being bitten by a spider on-set of her latest movie.

The US actress, 26, shot upcoming rom-com Anyone But You alongside Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell in Sydney earlier this year, with the film’s storyline also set in Australia.

In a scene from the movie, which comes out Boxing Day, Sweeney’s character Bea is walking in the bush land when she discovers a spider is sitting on her arm.

The reality of shooting the scene was just as spine-tingling, with Sweeney revealing she was repeatedly bitten by the “huge” spider. To make matters worse, crew were none the wiser, assuming she was giving a dramatic acting performance.

Speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Sweeney said, “We’re filming, and the thing starts biting me... But we were in the middle of a scene and I’m supposed to be screaming, but then my screaming got a little serious.”

Video of the moment then played on-air, which showed Sweeney – not in character – hysterically screaming, “Oh my god! It’s biting me! No, it’s actually biting me!”

Powell, 35, appears to realise Sweeney was, in fact, not giving an Oscar-worthy performance, and was seen grabbing his co-star with concern.

“It got you? It actually got you?”

Powell came to her rescue.

In a trailer released in November, fans got a sneak peek at the scene that did make the cut – and it’s not too different from the blooper:

The Euphoria star said the spider in question had been “trained” to feature in the film.

“I don’t know how you train a freaking spider?” she questioned. “There’s no way.”

In perhaps not the greatest tourist endorsement for our nation, Sweeney also told Fallon there were “jumping sharks” lurking Aussie waters.

“The first thing every single Aussie says when they see you is, ‘You know, anything can kill you’,” she said.

“There’s sharks. They’re absolutely terrifying. There’s jumping sharks.

“The spiders hide in everything. I had a spider that was in my vent, the leg was sticking out.

“You have to shake your shoe before you put your shoe on.”

Australia was a hot topic of conversation during Sweeney's Jimmy Fallon interview.

Elsewhere in the interview, Sweeney told the US talk show host she discovered Australia’s annual schoolies celebration while filming another movie, upcoming thriller Eden, on the Gold Coast in November.

Fallon asked the star if she picked up any “Australian slang” during her time here, to which Sweeney went on to explain schoolies in detail.

“While I’ve been there, they had this thing called the schoolies, and it’s when the high schoolers graduate, and they go and have their big huge spring break party,” Sweeney began.

“They shut down all the streets and the schoolies go out, and then the ‘toolies’ go out too, and those are anybody that is older than 21. And they put wristbands on them to know that there are tools trying to pick up younger kids.”

Fallon, 49, was tickled by the revelation, saying, “The toolies and the schoolies?! That’s so fun, I love that!”

‘Foolies’ were not to be left out, with Sweeney continuing, “And then anybody that is still in high school that goes out also gets a different colour wristband and they’re called the ‘foolies’. When they aren’t old enough to be messing around, so they’re fools.”

Fallon mused, “Oh my gosh I’m such a ‘toolie’. Yeah, oh my god, so sad.”
