Secured after Queensland Premier and Trade Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk’s trade mission to the US in February, Dora the Explorer will be filmed on location and in Sound Stage 9 at Village Roadshow Studios.

The shoot is expected to generate 500 production jobs, with cameras due to begin rolling on August 6.
US actress Isabela Moner, best known for her role alongside Mark Wahlberg in last year’s Transformers movie, will star as a teenage version of the beloved children’s character in the first live-action feature about Dora.
Suitably qualified and available Queensland crew can apply for positions on the international production by emailing their CVs to the production office email address: dorafilmproduction@gmail.com
The applications are open to bona fide Queenslanders only — that is, people who are Queensland residents and who can prove they have lived in Queensland for at least six months.
The email address is not for anyone hoping to land a role in the film’s cast or as an extra — all casting for the film will be done via agencies. Actors and extras hoping to land work on the film are advised to enlist with a Queensland agent.
Screen Queensland chief Tracey Vieira said producers would hire 350 local crew, up to 40 cast members and generate 750 days’ work for extras.

Acceptable forms of proof of residency can include contractual confirmation someone is enrolled on the Queensland electoral roll and has been for a minimum of six months (such details of the electoral roll to be attached to their contract and confirmed as correct).
Applicants can also sign a statutory declaration confirming their residency at an address/addresses in Queensland for a minimum of six months prior to their engagement on the project and provide supporting evidence such as a utility bill dated six or more months prior to their engagement on the project.
DORA FILMMAKERS EXPLORE GOLD COAST DURING GAMES
The producers’ commitment to employing locals follows the “myjobmatters” screen industry campaign by Screen Queensland and industry stakeholders that called on the Federal Government to raise location incentives to help lure more overseas productions to film here.
Ms Palaszczuk said many cast and crew members of the locally filmed blockbuster Thor: Ragnarok — including indigenous people who landed their first break on that film — had already secured work on Dora.

Of the 2100 cast, crew and extras employed on the Gold Coast shoot for Aquaman, 81 per cent, or 1700, were Queenslanders.
Based on the animated series of the same name, Dora The Explorer is being directed by James Bobin (Muppets Most Wanted) and produced in association with Nickelodeon.
The film is slated for release in the US in August 2019.
