ECSTATIC Gold Coast Suns chairman Tony Cochrane can’t wait to welcome thousands more fans through the resurgent club’s gates next weekend.
Mr Cochrane had 6502 reasons to be excited yesterday after the side smashed the Adelaie Crows to surge up the AFL leaderboard - it was the second Suns win on the trot and for next Saturday’s Freemantle clash he can host 6500 fans, 25 per cent of Metricon Stadium capacity.
Health Minister and Deputy Premier Steven Miles yesterday announced stadiums could use 25 per cent of their full capacity with a maximum of 10,000 fans allowed attend.
“The trial of a small number of spectators has been very successful. It worked very well. And so the only thing better than having fans back at the football is having more fans back at the football,” Mr Miles said.
Over the weekend up to 2000 patrons were allowed into Queensland grounds with Minister Sport Mick de Brenni saying the ‘trials’ were “a roaring success.”
The included 2000 who poured into Metricon to watch yesterday’s win.

“The energy around the club is tremendous,” Mr Cochrane said. “The team is starting to dare to dream.”
The supporter base of the Suns, including members, sponsors and corporates is 16,000.
“I’m sorry to those supporters who couldn’t get into the ground, today we were allowed 2,000,” he said.
“The stadium holds 26,000 so we’ll be able to have six-and-half thousand fans in. I’m sorry not everyone can come and see them but it’s out of our control.”
