Prince Harry suffers Invictus blow as FBI reveals Trump gunman’s fixation on Princess Catherine

Prince Harry lost a key staffer after accepting a controversial award, as the FBI said failed Donald Trump assassin considered Princess Catherine as a target.

Prince Harry has suffered a fresh Invictus Games blow after the foundation’s chief executive announced his departure.

Dominic Reid, who has been credited with helping the foundation’s growth globally, stepped down from Invictus after 10 years and six games across three continents.

But royal commentators speculate whether the departure is connected to controversy over Harry receiving the Pat Tillman Award for military service.

The Duke of Sussex said he was immensely grateful to Mr Reid for transforming the Paralympic-style sporting competition for wounded, injured and sick military personnel and veterans from an ambitious idea into a global movement.

“His tireless efforts over the past decade have supported thousands of wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans through sports rehabilitation, helping to showcase their unparalleled strength and contribution to society,” the prince said.

Reid’s resignation comes just days after Harry was blasted for choosing to accept the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the 2024 ESPYS.

Meanwhile, the gunman who tried to kill Donald Trump searched online for a member of the Royal Family days before his attempt on the former US president’s life, FBI investigators have said.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, was killed after opening fire on the former president at a rally in Pennsylvania last weekend.

His electronic devices were subsequently seized and unlocked, revealing that he had Google searched several public figures leading up to the incident, including Christopher Wray, the FBI director - and Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Images of Kate were then saved to his devices prior to his attempt to kill the former president.

FBI have seized and extensively analysed the shooter’s two phones and laptop since Saturday’s rally, and the Daily Beast reported the shooter’s last online search was for disturbing pornography.

The Trump shooting is seen as one of the worst blunders in US Secret Service history but it is also having fallout for the Royal Family.

King Charles wrote privately to Trump following last week’s shooting, and has had his security tightened since the event.

Charles was himself fired at with blanks while on stage at Darling Harbour, in Sydney, Australia, in 1994.

It comes as royal security ushered the King and Queen to safety after spotting a suspect on a roof just hours after the assassination attempt on ex-president Trump.

Charles, 75, and Camilla, 77, were quickly removed from an open-air expo in Jersey where they were chatting to locals and whisked away to a nearby hotel to take shelter.

One witness who was talking to the King as it happened said protection officers appeared and said: “He has to go now.”

Eagle-eyed security, working with police, had seen someone on a roof overlooking Liberation Square, St Helier, Jersey, where the royal couple were greeting wellwishers.

The suspect was challenged by police, but no action taken after a background check. The incident was declared a false alarm.

Monday’s security scare came just two days after US Secret Service blunders allowed a would-be assassin to fire off shots at Donald Trump from a nearby roof.

The King and Queen emerged shortly after from a nearby hotel to cheers from flag-waving fans.

Meanwhile, Princess Catherine announced she will be stepping back from public life after her appearance at Wimbledon, so that she may focus on healing and wellbeing.
