King Charles has received a rousing reception at NSW State Parliament after he and Queen Camilla delighted royal fans at a Sydney church service.
As the King and Queen left St Thomas’ Anglican Church in North Sydney, they were greeted by hundreds of cheering people, all hoping to catch a glimpse or snap a photo.
Some chanted “hip hip hurrah” and “long live the King” as the royals greeted the public on their first official engagement in Australia.
“It’s lovely to be here ,” the King, swathed in a linen suit, replied to flag-waving fans.
At least a dozen pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside the church ahead of the royal pair’s arrival.
The demonstrators held one large banner reading “Empire built on genocide. Not our king”, as they expressed solidarity with the Indigenous Australians, Lebanese and Palestinian people.
