Details of former Scrubs star Eliza Coupe’s alternative new lifestyle have emerged following her recent red carpet appearance in Hollywood.
The actress, 43, attracted plenty of attention while attending the premiere of her new Netflix series, The Residence, last Wednesday.
Coupe is best known for her role as Dr Denise “Jo” Mahoney on Scrubs, which also starred Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke and ran from 2001 until 2010 - and Jane Kerkovich-Williams in Happy Endings.
She’s kept a relatively low profile of late – but following her appearance last week, details of her spiritual exploration in recent years have emerged.
During an interview on The Funny Thing Is podcast in February, Coupe revealed that she began using the plant-based psychedelic drug ayahuasca to cleanse “toxic energy” following her 2018 divorce.
“I started sobbing, and it was nuts,” she explained of her two experiences with the hallucinogenic.
“And then I got to see all the inner workings of myself.”
Coupe added: “I look back at it now and am so grateful I did it, but it doesn’t call for me to do it again.”
In January, Coupe revealed on Instagram that she and her new husband, professional skater Billy Marks, had moved to Joshua Tree in favour of a desert lifestyle.
“Out here in the calm desert with my love and our animals and my sister Bex, I finally feel I’m home. For the first time in this entire human experience,” she captioned an album, which featured a loved-up picture with Marks along with several snaps of their home and dogs.
“It is pure magic out here. There are no words for the volume of gratitude I have for my guides telling me to come here … And for my ability to hear them.”
Coupe is currently working on her self-help book, Coyote Woman and the Odyssey of Soul Contracts.
Meanwhile her latest acting project, The Residence, is a mystery drama set inside the White House staff residence.
Coupe plays Senator Margery Bay Bix in a cast which also includes Orange Is The New Black’s Uzo Aduba as well as Barrett Foa, Edwina Findley, and Julieth Restrepo.
Coupe’s outing comes just months after Braff, who starred as Dr John “JD” Dorian on Scrubs, hinted that a reboot is on the cards.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight in August, he revealed his belief that it was “gonna happen”.
“I’m gonna tell you something that nobody else is gonna get,” he said.
“Scrubs is a Disney show. Bill [Lawrence, Scrubs’ creator] has a Warner Bros. deal. Once those two companies figure that out, I think the people will get what they want. I think it’s gonna happen.”
Braff added that he was keen to reunite the former cast on-screen.
“It would be so much fun [with] all my favourite people. We all still hang out. A lot of people who were on long shows say that, but it’s true,” he said. “I was just on vacation with Sarah Chalke … I’m going to the beach with Bill next weekend. We’re all friends.”
