Justin Timberlake ‘failed a series of sobriety tests’ before arrest

Justin Timberlake’s lawyer insists his high-profile client was not drunk when he was pulled over and then arrested but a police report paints a different picture.

Pop superstar Justin Timberlake smelt of alcohol and was “unable to follow police instructions correctly” when he was pulled over under suspicion of drink-driving in the Hamptons in June, according to a police report.

Timberlake was arrested and charged with drink-driving on June 18 after police witnessed him driving through a stop sign in the exclusive celebrity enclave of Sag Harbour.

The 43-year-old refused to take a breathalyser test, but the star’s lawyer last month claimed he was not intoxicated at the time of his arrest.

But police documents have revealed new details of the incident, which saw Timberlake fail a series of sobriety tests, refuse a chemical test, before ultimately being arrested.

According to police documents obtained by the Daily Mail, Timberlake was stopped shortly after midnight on June 18 by police officer Michael Arkinson who allegedly witnessed the star drive through a stop sign and swerve into the opposite lane.

The police paperwork revealed Timberlake verbally refused a test three times and even refused to initial the document confirming that decision.

The handwritten arrest notes appear to show that the Arkinson followed procedure, determining that Timberlake displayed numerous signs of intoxication such as swaying on his feet, turning the wrong way, and being unable to keep his balance.

The report states Timberlake was alone in the car and was observed to have “bloodshot and glassy eyes, odour of alcoholic beverage emanating from breath, inability to divide attention, unsteady afoot …”

The policeman quoted the singer saying: “I had one martini and I followed my friends home.”

He also noted that Timberlake was “unable to focus on speaking while looking for vehicle registration”.

During the “walk and turn”, which requires the person to take nine steps in a straight line, each time placing his heel directly in front of his toe, then to turn and repeat the process, Timberlake was “very unbalanced”, and was “unable to follow instructions correctly”.

It also emerged that the star was in possession of a pricey Rolex watch, a gold ring, a vape pen, and more than $450 in cash on him when he was arrested.

Last week, a judge suspended the singer’s licence for six months over refusing to take the breathalyser test and threatened Timberlake’s lawyer with a gag order over “irresponsible” comments about the investigation.
