Bridgerton became renowned for its wild sex scenes after it debuted on Netflix, but one of the stars has shattered the fantasy with his behind the scenes revelation.

Bridgerton’s debut in 2020 shattered viewing records for Netflix, becoming the most watched show in the streamer’s history at the time.

Perhaps the show becoming a huge talking point across social media had something to do with its success, in part thanks to the wild sex scenes between leading stars, Phoebe Dynevor and Rege-Jean Page.

The first season, which dropped in December of that year, made bona fide stars of the two British actors, whose characters Simon Basset and Daphne Bridgerton appeared in a flurry of X-rated scenes across its eight episodes.

But Page, 34, who is currently promoting his latest movie Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, has shattered the steamy fantasy with his behind-the-scenes revelation.

Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Page confessed he and Dynevor, 27, didn’t take precautions when it came to … mouth odour.

“What no one knows about Bridgerton … Phoebe and I had horrendous coffee breath the whole way through,” Page revealed.

“You approach your other actor and go, ‘Hey, so the scenes after lunch, what are our rules? Are we no onions? Are we no garlic? Do I have to get the coffee in early?’

“We both are like, ‘I actually really like coffee so I don’t mind.’”

Page didn’t appear in the second season of the show, which hit streaming March last year, much to the outcry of his diehard fanbase.

While no reason has ever been given as to why he left, with reports suggesting it was always supposed to be a “one season gig”, Page claimed in September 2021 that he was no longer in the cast’s group chat on WhatsApp.

Speaking to Britain’s GQ at the time, he said: “The universe has expanded. So I’m no longer in it.”

However, Page added that he wasn’t kicked out. “I respectfully exited. I didn’t want to put them in an awkward situation where they had to kick me out.”

Dynevor appeared briefly in the second season, which diverted to older brother Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and his love story with Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley).

Per author Julia Quinn’s novels, each book focuses on a different Bridgerton sibling, with the upcoming third season set to follow Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and his potential love interest, Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).

However, it’s rumoured the season has suffered expansive delays due to a storyline being axed.

In January, it was reported filming on the show was halted after executive producer Shonda Rhimes wasn’t happy with the “direction” of the show.

“We have been told that it needs the fun back so there are changes, which of course means delays,” said a source to MailOnline.

“One thing is for sure though, the production team want to get it right for Bridgerton fans so they enjoy it as much as they have in the past.

“There are some elements that Shonda is just not happy with so wants to change them. Some of it got very dark.”

There is no airdate for the new season.
