‘Nasty’ detail in new Aussie luxury home

The Block contestants Maddy and Charlotte suffered a brutal comedown during Sunday’s episode of the show, their guest bedroom and laundry getting slammed by the judges and seeing them finish last for the week.

And judge Shaynna Blaze called out one detail in particular: A toilet in the girls’ laundry room, positioned right next to a floor-to-ceiling glass door leading out to the backyard.

Blaze said the door needed to be changed to frosted glass, and when fellow judge Marty Fox noted that the toilet was next to an outdoor space that’ll likely become a seating area, Blaze had one thing to say: “That’s nasty.”

The bad news continued in the girls’ guest bedroom, which was intended to function as a self-contained unit that could be rented out to holidaymakers coming to Phillip Island. Blaze had her doubts about the likelihood of that, especially given the room’s unusual sleeping layout of one double bed positioned above another, bunk-style.

“I wouldn’t rent this as a couple, because I’m looking at a cupboard. And I’ve come to Phillip Island for a getaway – this doesn’t feel like a getaway. If I’ve come here with two kids, I don’t want them sitting above me.”

Darren Palmer was a lot more complimentary, saying that if it wasn’t for the fact the room was unfinished, it’d be a 10 for him.

But Blaze argued that the sisters were “trying to cover too many markets, and I don’t think this does that well enough.”

Despite some good feedback, the fact the sisters didn’t finish either room earned them a brutal verdict from the judges: They’d “fallen off a cliff” in their fifth week on The Block.

And they got the scores to match: 20 out of 30, leaving them in last place for the week, while Ricky and Haydn took home the win with a near-perfect score of 29.
