A DUMPED radio host who has rebounded on the Glitter Strip admits her sudden axing from a Brisbane breakfast slot was a “devastating blow to my ego” but says “that’s showbiz”.
Radio broadcaster Bianca Dye has joined popular Gold Coast Hit 90.9 duo Dan Anstey and Ben Hannant, having logged her first shift on Monday.
Dye, 46, who relocated back to the Gold Coast after her axing in December, said she was happy to be back on her local airwaves but being dropped from Australian Radio Networks’s 97.3FM brekkie show caught her by surprise.
“At the time I was devastated because it was a blow to my ego and to be told your services on this show are no longer needed, it’s pretty heartbreaking.
“But I totally understood their decision. You live by the sword and die by the sword. It is showbiz, it’s not personal. And it’s all great when you are the rock star and you are number one - but you also have to take that with the day when your boss sits you down and says it’s over. You can’t be bitter.
“And at the end of the day it has worked out perfectly.”
Dye, a 25-year radio veteran, also said the Brisbane brekkie market was intense and likened her axing to “being taken out of a marathon – part of you wants to keep running but you are kind of happy you’ve been taken out”.
Her new deal with Southern Cross Austereo sees her replace Lise Carlaw and Sarah Wills who recently departed.
“I am a Goldie girl, my first radio gig was on the Coast and I am so lucky to finally be back home. I keep having to pinch myself.”
She is based on the Gold Coast with partner Jay Sandtner.
“I know it sounds so corny but when I was thirteen years old on the drive to Nerang State High I used to listen to the SEA FM breakfast morning show and that’s all I wanted to do when I grew up,” she said. “Literally this job has been on my vision board since I was 13.”
Dye originally left the Gold Coast’s 92.5FM in 2016 to replace Robin Bailey at 97.3FM’s Brisbane breakfast show after Bailey moved to Triple M.

But late last year Dye and co-host Mike van Acker were dumped and original show members Robyn Bailey and Terry Hansen returned.
Bianca said the last twelve months had been an “interesting journey”.
“COVID-19 was really hard,” Dye said.
“Leaving the show and then to be in lockdown with nothing to do and nowhere to perform was really frustrating.
“At the end of the day, it’s showbiz, but I feel like it’s all worked out absolutely perfectly.”
After hosting breakfast radio for 10 years, Dye said she was used to the early mornings but was excited, more than ever, to join her “brothers” Dan Anstey and Ben Hannant.
“I’ve known and admired the boys for years,” the Miami resident said.
“I can’t wait to wake up with them to chat about all that we love about the Gold Coast, make our listeners laugh and talk about real and honest issues, like mental health.
“They are a couple of cheeky boys and I will probably have to pull them into line.
“I am already feeling like the older sister but I am ready to make some magic with them.”
