How Gold Coast schools ranked in 2019 NAPLAN results

NAPLAN results released overnight have shone a fascinating light on the performance of Gold Coast schools, with some colleges celebrating a remarkable performance.

Do our schools need NAPLAN?

THE top performing NAPLAN schools on the Gold Coast have been revealed following the 2019 results release.

Students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 took part in the controversial nationwide standardised test in May.

The test is designed to measure students in literacy and numeracy and track progress.

Across the Gold Coast region found Year 3 and Year 5 students at A B Paterson College got an average NAPLAN score of 5137 – the area’s top performing primary school.

The second best performing primary school on the Gold Coast was The Southport School where the average result was 5099 for Year 3 and Year 5 students.

The third best performing primary school was Emmanuel College, Carrara where the schoolwide average score was 5041.

Somerset College was Gold Coast’s top performing high school. There Year 7 and Year 9 students received an average NAPLAN score of 6098.

HOW GOLD COAST SCHOOLS COMPARED IN 2018

The second best performing high school was A B Paterson College where the average score was 5996, while the third best performing school was All Saints Anglican School where the average score was 5970.

The results follow a long line of academic success for the school’s which were all ranked in the top ten on the Gold Coast last year.

The NAPLAN test remains controversial with the Queensland Government calling for a national review into the test.

But advocates maintain the test is an important way to view student and school progress at one moment in time and schools use the results to improve teaching.

Somerset College: 5026 points

All Saints Anglican School: 4978 points

Currumbin Valley State School: 4881 points

Bellevue Park State School: 4880 points
