IT was an anxious night of waiting for St Hilda’s dux Caitlin Boyle, who earned top marks with an OP1 this year.
The 17-year-old from Broadbeach Waters stayed up on Friday night for her results to drop at midnight, frantically clicking refresh on her computer.
“I’m in NSW at the moment so I actually had to wait until 1am because of the time difference,” she told the Bulletin.

“Mum was waiting up in Queensland for it so I called to tell her the good news, she was very excited.
“I was quite nervous but I knew that if it was a band 2 I’d just have to take it on the chin, I didn’t want to get my hopes up but I was really hoping for a 1.”
Caitlin will use her OP1 to study biomedical science at Bond University on a full scholarship, in the hopes of becoming a doctor.
COAST SCHOOL’S ‘EXTRAORDINARY’ OP RESULT
It wasn’t easy balancing study, sport and an afterschool job, but the teen said enjoying her subjects – mathematics, English, chemistry and physics – made it fun.
“I maintained the same level of work I’d been doing in Year 11 and 10, so it wasn’t that much of a jump for me,” she said.
“I also did have a good work life balance and did a lot of sport – cross country mostly.”
