GOLD Coast private school teachers have voted to strike and take other industrial action next week over poor working conditions.

On the Gold Coast, hundreds of teachers and support staff from nine Catholic schools are authorised to take protected industrial action as part of a statewide movement involving 195 schools.

The independent Education Union claims the move is because of a failure of Queensland Catholic schools to address concerns regarding workload, insecure work and wage parity with the state sector.

The action, which will come in the form of work bans, will take place on Thursday, November 7th.

Action includes not attending staff meetings, not taking on lunch time duties or supervision lessons.

Independent Education Union of Australia Queensland Branch Secretary Terry Burke said the protected action had been endorsed by 90 per cent of members who voted.

Mr Burke said despite negotiations starting in March this year, Queensland Catholic school employers had failed to listen to the voice of employees on the workloads and pay disparity of teachers.

The Union had also raised concerns around the prevalence and impact of insecure, contract-based work.

Mr Burke said employers had left them no choice.
