A LONG-time Springbrook National Park resident claims “arrogant” visitors are ignoring closure signs and moving car park barricades.
The man, who wanted to remain anonymous, said there were “hundreds of people” at the Canyon Lookout carpark yesterday taking advantage of the relaxed restrictions.
It was a similar situation on Saturday, but police managed to move the visitors on though many returned shortly after, he said.
The resident said the closed, barricaded car park was full.
“I just don’t understand why they do it. They are driving at least 30 kilometres after they’ve seen a sign saying it’s (the national park) closed, so it’s not just … ‘Oh I didn’t know it was closed’. There are signs everywhere,” the man said.
“Come for a drive, drive around, don’t start going walking in the parks when they are closed and removing barricades. If they were doing that down in Broadbeach … there’d be an uproar.”

Some were partially reopened at the weekend but Springbrook National Park remains closed.
Before the government closed all national parks on April 1 there was outrage when dozens of people were photographs flaunting social distancing advice in the Gold Coast hinterland national park.
