Mid-tier law firm HopgoodGanim Lawyers has restocked its specialist technology team after a raid late last year by a rival practice.

HopgoodGanim has wooed specialist technology partner, Andrew Hynd, and senior associate Jean Lukin from Redlich Holding to the firm’s Waterfront Place aerie.

Hynd is an intellectual property, technology and cybercrime lawyer and brings more than 20 years of experience advising both private sector and government organisations on strategic procurement and transformational technology projects.

Citybeat readers will remember that in December national law firm Thomson Geer poached top Queensland based technology and cyber lawyer Hayden Delaney and his team of eight from HopgoodGanim.

Luke Mountford, managing partner at HopgoodGanim, says Hynd is one of the top IPTC lawyers in Brisbane.

“His experience supporting major transformational technology projects will provide immense value to our clients, particularly as they continue to adopt more advanced technologies across their organisations,” he says.

The pair’s appointment follows the arrival in December of two leading IPTC consultants Anna Sharpe and Alex Ninis and the acquisition of a specialised real estate practice from Corrs Chambers Westgarth in February.

More change is on the way for HopgoodGanim and by the end of the year they will be moving into Charter Hall/Investa’s plus new premium tower at 360 Queen St.

Appointment

BOQ Group has appointed Julian Russell to lead its business banking team.

The job starts on April 22 and Russell joins BOQ Group from FleetPartners (formerly Eclipx), where he was group chief executive and where he led a highly successful turnaround of the business.

Prior to his role at FleetPartners, Russell held senior positions at UBS in Australia and Merrill Lynch in Europe.

He replaces Chris Screen who quietly – and unexpectedly – quit over Christmas.

BOQ Group chief executive Patrick Allaway says Russell brings extensive experience in local and international financial services.

“Julian is a seasoned executive with a proven track record in leading complex organisations through transformations and returning them to profitable growth,” he says.

“I am very optimistic about the future of the Business Bank under Julian’s leadership, building on BOQ’s record of delivering exceptional outcomes for our business customers.

Australia’s oldest continuously running professional theatre company La Boite has expanded its Board by three as it prepares to celebrate its centenary in July.

Hannah Barr, Grace Loyden and John Nicholas Saunders bring a wealth of expertise in philanthropy, education and the arts, strengthening La Boite’s strategic leadership at a pivotal time in the Kelvin Grove-based company’s history.

La Boite artistic director and chief executive Courtney Stewart says the new directors will play an active role in shaping La Boite’s future as the company continues its mission to present bold, contemporary and inclusive theatre.

“Our centenary is a moment to celebrate La Boite’s rich history, but it’s also an opportunity to set the stage for our next 100 years,” Stewart says.

“We are thrilled to welcome these exceptional leaders to our Board and look forward to their contribution in this exciting milestone year.”
