A SMALL beachfront unit block will be demolished and replaced by a high-rise tower overlooking one of the Gold Coast’s most famous breaks.

Developer Devine has unveiled plans for ALBA, a 22-storey tower on the Esplanade at Miami, just a handful of metres away from North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club.

Its design, according to documents filed with the Gold Coast City Council, was inspired by beach towels.

It will feature 47 units, eight of which will be used for holiday rentals. The rest are planned for the owner-occupier market.

Its design is inspired by the “iconography” of beach towels.

The tower is earmarked for a 1012sq m site. The majority of its units will have three bedrooms.

The two-level penthouse will feature a rooftop pool overlooking North Burleigh beach.

“The site presents an opportunity for a building designed around a celebration of the identity of Burleigh, and its history as a meeting place for all on its brilliant white sands and in its iconic foreshore parklands,” the planning report said.

The tower will overlook North Burleigh Beach.
