THE first residents of a new $1.3 billion mini city in the heart of the Gold Coast will move in within two years.
Construction has begun on two of four towers at the Sunland Group’s The Lanes Residences.
And they’ll be paying a pretty penny to live at the 42ha The Lakes precinct at Clear Island Waters, with units set to cost up to $1.8 million.
Sunland managing director Sahba Abedian said the project would go to market next month.
“No other precinct of this size or scale on the central Gold Coast lends itself to such a unique opportunity,” he said.
“In creating the design language for The Lanes Residences we first needed to define the broader vision of The Lakes master plan to ensure the residential, retail and social spaces are connected and complement one another in a way that creates and sustains vibrant community life.”

The $250 million, four mid-rise towers range from 10 to 12 storeys and will have a range of one, two and three-bedroom apartments and penthouses with views of the lakefront, Hinterland and Gold Coast skyline.
Mr Abedian said the first apartments were scheduled for completion in mid to late 2021.
The work has moved quickly after council greenlit the development just four weeks ago.
Sunland unveiled the project last December and revamped its plans for the site in June.
The number of units increased from 298 to 310 because an extra six units each will be added to the larger towers.
There will now be a total of 642 bedrooms in the towers which, along with already approved buildings and completed townhouses, mean there will ultimately be 1262 bedrooms across the precinct.
It will sit alongside the $200 million Lanes Shopping Centre and Lakes residential precinct.
The shopping centre project will be built on 6ha and feature 80 shops, cafes, restaurants, a fresh food hall, health and wellbeing services and a boutique cinema across 17,000sq m.
