CLARKE’S Design and Construct will more than double the size of its premises when it moves to the Logos estate in Arundel as it seeks to keep pace with strong demand.

The company, which currently has 1100sq m at 1/19 Harrington St, is planning to start work before Christmas on its new 2500sq m headquarters at lot 7 Logistics Place.

It has bought a 3571sq m block at the Gold Coast Logistics Hub, which is being developed by Logos Property off Captain Cook Drive in Arundel.

Andrew Clarke, founder and director of Clarke’s Design and Construct, said it had outgrown its current building, which was constructed four years ago.

“When we built this we thought we would never outgrow it,” he said.

“But we now have 46 staff and the time has come for new premises that gives us capacity to grow further.”

Mr Clarke said the development application had been granted for the three-level building and it was waiting for the building approval to come through before starting work, possibly before Christmas.

The new premises will contain three levels of office and staffrooms at the front with the 1500sq m factory, where the manufacturing and steel fabrication takes place, situated to the rear. The factory will include two overhead cranes and is estimated to improve efficiencies by 30 per cent.

The first floor will have meeting rooms, offices and reception, while the second floor will be reserved for more meeting rooms, kitchen and recreational space.

“We will have breakout areas, pool area, alfresco and barbecue area,” he said.

“That’s for the staff to let their hair down and relax. We have a really good culture here.”

Clarke’s, which has $30 million of projects on its workbooks, is building a new KFC outlet on Ferry Rd. Its projects range from small retail premises through to an $8 million 10,000sq m factory it built for Centurion Garage Doors in Yatala four years ago.

Mr Clarke said its competitive advantage was its ability to take a project right from the conception and design phase through to construction, which is handled in-house by its own team of steel fabricators, carpenters and project managers.

As part of the company’s plans to move to Logistics Place, it has listed its current premises for sale through CBRE’s David Corke and Daniel Coburn, of Colliers, for $2.8 million.

Clarke’s is offering the purchaser a 12-month leaseback arrangement with the sale.

Mr Corke negotiated the sale of the Logos block to Mr Clarke.
