Mudgeeraba’s historic former Woodchoppers pub will be demolished and redeveloped into a mixed-use commercial development.
Plans have been lodged with the Gold Coast City Council for the new project which will replace the pub just months after its closure.
The plans reveal it will have space for 14 tenants and it’s expected only a small portion of it will remain in use for food and drinks.
Area councillor Glenn Tozer has welcomed the proposal, which he said will boost the area.
“The applicant had a much more contemporary proposal planned and I am pleased that they met with me and were able to reconfigure them so it was aligned more with the existing heritage facades of the village,” he said.
“Woodchoppers is an old building which has been renovated multiple times and while there is a sense of nostalgia connected with it, it is important to remember that buildings do reach the end of their life and need to be replaced.
“What I love about what has been lodged is that it seems to have a deep respect for the existing heritage.”
