Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Thursday, May 29. The ASX 200 index closed 0.2 per cent higher to 8409.80 points.

Wall Street's S&P 500, Dow Jones and the technology-focused Nasdaq indexes all closed 0.5 per cent lower after minutes from the Federal Reserve's last rate meeting showed officials concerned large tariff hikes would push up prices and could risk stoking higher inflation.

Cryptocurrency giant bitcoin was below $US108,000 at 5pm AEST.

The Aussie dollar was trading around US64.32c.
