A suspended prison officer has fronted court accused of a sexual relationship with an inmate that police allege exposed the prison to security risks.
Melissa Goodwin, 25, made her way through the long, slow queue at Burwood Local Court on Tuesday.
Her matter was dealt with briefly in the courtroom foyer, with a registrar adjourning it until August 12.
Goodwin adjusted her pink coat and marched quickly back out into the rain with her lawyer after just a moment inside.
The officer was arrested in May and charged with misconduct in a public office and engaging in a relationship with an inmate that exposed Silverwater Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre to risk.
Police allege in court documents Goodwin was in an “undisclosed and sexual relationship with inmate Corey London” between November last year and April.
They allege she brought in contraband and engaged in other misconduct as well.
Police further allege, in the second charge, that her relationship with London in that time exposed the centre to security risks.
Goodwin did not enter any pleas at Burwood on Tuesday.
A CSNSW spokesperson said Goodwin is currently suspended without pay.
