A police officer has pleaded not guilty to assaulting a transgender woman and then falsifying his notebook and police computer records after arresting and charging her.
Mark Follington, 60, was at the Golden Fleece Hotel in Liverpool last May when he ran into Anya Bradford.
It was initially alleged Bradford had attacked police, but it‘s now alleged Senior Constable Follington manufactured the case against her.
He was charged and faced court for the first time earlier this year.
The officer’s lawyer entered pleas of not guilty to two counts of assault, tampering with evidence to mislead a tribunal, accessing restricted police files and perverting the course of justice at the Downing Centre Local Court on Monday.
Court documents reveal Follington allegedly made changes to his police notebook regarding the incident at the Fleece.
He did so, police allege, knowing they’d form evidence before a judicial review.
They also allege he created a “false” record in the COPS police computer system knowing he wasn’t authorised to do so.
They further allege he manufactured a charge sheet against Bradford after assaulting her twice.
He did not appear in court as the matter was set down for its next appearance in August.
