Paedophile former Labor politician Milton Orkopoulos has had his freedom revoked and is back behind bars for breaching the conditions of his parole.
The State Parole Authority today made the decision after he allegedly continued to use mobile phones connected to the internet in contravention of his reporting conditions.
Orkopoulos was released on parole on December 20 after 11 years behind bars for 30 child sex abuse and drugs offences and placed on the Child Protection Register.
SPA said in a statement today: “The Authority revoked the order on the basis the offender had breached two conditions of his parole, namely that he “must not commit any offences” and “must comply will all conditions and requirements of the Child Protection Register (CPR).”
Just a month after his release, Orkopoulos, 62, was charged by police for allegedly setting up an Instagram account to follow soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and not telling police within the required seven days.
He is also accused of speaking to a child relative on the phone.
In Waverley Local Court, his lawyer Omar Juweinat entered formal not guilty pleas on his behalf.
Then last week he was arrested again at the Maroubra halfway house he is living at and charged with three counts of failing to comply with reporting restrictions by using someone else’s phone. He was refused bail.
The first case is due back in court on March 5 and SPA is unlikely to make any decisions on the disgraced politician’s future before the criminal cases are all dealt with.
Orkopoulos told The Daily Telegraph last month he was surprised by the improvements in technology upon his release.
“I am three weeks out of jail and I am having trouble with this new technology I don’t know about,” he said.
“Nokia didn’t have apps in 2007. It’s another universe, another dimension.”
He added he lived in “daily shame” over his crimes.
