A police officer who tasered a man repeatedly after he fled police allegedly carrying stolen goods will be the subject of a police probe.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian this morning confirmed NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller will investigate whether the use of the taser was authorised.

“I can confirm I have spoken to the police commissioner and the police will be investigating the man. He is undertaking a review,” she said of the arrest.

Footage emerged of Kris Bradshaw being tasered repeatedly at close range in a dramatic arrest in Sydney’s eastern suburbs after he allegedly tried to punch officers.

In a social media post, a woman who said she was the man’s girlfriend said he was “an innocent man and an Aboriginal”.

The video captured by an onlooker shows Bradshaw cornered near a row of terraces near South Dowling St in Paddington as police attempt to arrest him for allegedly carrying stolen goods.

The 32-year-old man had fled on foot as police approached him around lunchtime on Monday, prompting a foot pursuit.

The man allegedly threatened to injure police officers before again lashing out and attempting to punch them before again fleeing.

Mr Bradshaw is then cornered as two police officers try to get him on the grass for arrest.

“Mate get the f*** down on the ground now,” a NSW Police officer can be heard yelling.

The man then crouches on his knees as police again ask for him to get on the ground for arrest.

A female officer then grabs the man by the shoulder to try to place him down before a male officer draws a taser and shocks him repeatedly as the man screams in pain.

“Why are you f***ing doing that?” the man is heard saying as he writhes on the ground. “Get down on the ground now.”

NSW Police confirmed the officers had not been stood down but an internal investigation into the use of the Taser was under way.

A spokesman said Bradshaw was chased by police after he attempted to flee while carrying a bag. A similar looking bag – which allegedly containing more than 40 pharmaceutical items believed to be stolen — was later found dumped on Oxford St.

Bradshaw was charged with goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, intimidate police officer in execution of duty, enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.

Police will allege in court that the man was also in breach of a current enforceable apprehended domestic violence order.

Kris Bradshaw did not apply for bail when he appeared before Central Local Court on Tuesday morning.

Bradshaw was charged with five offences including having suspected stolen goods in custody, intimidating police, enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, resist or hinder police, and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic).

It will be alleged in court that the 32-year-old’s actions on Monday violated bail conditions imposed upon his release from custody for a series of violent domestic violence charges laid earlier this year.

Court documents reveal he faces 10 further charges including two counts of intentionally choke person without consent, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one count of sexual touching without consent.

The charges also include two counts of contravening an AVO and two counts of stealing from a person.

Bradshaw will return to court on June 26.
