Ryan Phelan domestic violence charges: Girlfriend Chelsea Franklin ‘devastated’
Channel 7 has directly addressed domestic violence allegations against TV host Ryan Phelan on his former show The Daily Edition while his girlfriend Chelsea Franklin says she is “completely devastated” about the charges.

Ryan Phelan’s girlfriend says she is “completely devastated” after the former Channel 7 host was charged with domestic violence offences against her.
Phelan agreed to be interviewed by detectives and presented himself at Manly Police Station yesterday before being charged with assault occasioning bodily harm against his live-in partner Chelsea Franklin on Saturday night.
“I am completely devastated. I’m heartbroken,” the ballet teacher told The Daily Telegraph. “He was my best friend and lover. We have had an amazing wonderful relationship so I hope he is okay.”
Channel 7 announced late last week that the program Phelan co-hosted with Sally Obermeder, The Daily Edition, would be axed and the two presenters would leave the network on Friday after a final week of shows. However, following the allegations, a Seven Network spokesperson said Phelan “will not be returning to the Daily Edition effective immediately.”
In a bold move, Phelan’s co-host Sally Obermeder, dressed in white, opened Tuesday’s show by acknowledging the former TV host’s charges.
“Before we go on I want to take the opportunity to address Ryan Phelan’s absence from the program. Ryan will not be returning to The Daily Edition due to the serious allegations that have being made against him,” she said.
“The network was unaware of these allegations until notified last night. We are all understandably shocked by the situation but as the matter is now before the courts, we won’t be commenting further.”
Tom Williams will now be filling in for Phelan, as the show sees out it’s final week.
Earlier this year Phelan and Ms Franklin purchased a plush property at Frenchs Forest, on the northern beaches, for $2.16 million.
“We BOUGHT a house! Blessed beyond measure,” Ms Franklin wrote at the time.
Phelan is scheduled to appear in court over the incident on June 30.
Following the allegations, Phelan’s former girlfriend and high-class escort Samantha X broke her silence about their relationship. The couple broke up in 2018 before Phelan and Ms Franklin began dating.
Samantha (aka, former beauty-editor Amanda Goff) told The Daily Telegraph that while Phelan wasn’t abusive in his intense six- month relationship with her, she said he is “fighting a lot of demons.”
“I was in a world of emotional pain after Ryan ended our relationship in an unspeakably cruel manner, and while I never spoke publicly about what happened, I will say I am thankful to have dodged a bullet,” she said.
Samantha said Phelan unexpectedly ended their relationship, saying she was only with him “for his fame and that I could have ruined his career.”
“The pain I went through with Ryan was a turning point for me to get sober, to regain my self-esteem and to realise my power again.”
