CCTV clearly captured two men dressed all in black with balaclavas on running to their getaway car after the morning assassination of underworld figure Mejid Hamzy, a witness said.

Hamzy, the older brother of notorious Brothers 4 Life gang leader Bassam Hamzy, was shot dead as he stepped out the door of his Condell Park town house around 7.30am on Monday.

A resident in the street who did not want to be identified said they heard a volley of gunshots and saw the men running to a getaway car. They said the men were simultaneously captured on their home CCTV cameras.

“I heard eight gun shots which of course brought me to the window, as I looked out I’ve seen two gunmen crossing the road straight to the car across the road, then they just took off,” the witness said.

Mejid was the eldest of the Hamzy clan.

“I went out to see if there were any dead people up the street … no one was injured so we knew he had to be dead.”

Mejid Hamzy had limped about 100m away into Curtin Place where he collapsed at the door of another home which was still stained in blood Tuesday morning.

A pram and children’s toys at the Curtin Place address remained beside police tape and a large patch of dried blood.

The witness said the two men fleeing were dressed in black and they suspect the getaway car may have been dropped at the Simmat Ave murder scene the day before.

“Just like you’d see on your newsfeeds, total black, boots … they had the bloody balaclavas on,” the witness said.

“They didn’t walk, they ran from the unit they shot at … not actually run, but a brisk pace, you know, like we’ve gotta get out of here.

“I heard at least eight (shots) … when I made a statement at the police station they said I was pretty correct.

“Two shooters went up there but to me it sounded just like one gun because it was bang, bang, bang, bang … if it was two you’d be able to differentiate between the two guns.

“Everyone in the street knows everybody else’s cars in the street so any new car turns up, one of us spots it.”

He said another resident told him the car was there overnight.

“And I thought ‘OK yeah they must have walked down to do the job then went over and hopped in their car’,” the witness said.

“Well if you have someone in another car drop you off at the top of the hill it’s just a stroll down and you’ve only got to go past four doors I think.

“Then you do your shooting and you go straight across the road and out.”

The Daily Telegraph can also reveal Mejid Hamzy, who was acquitted of commercial drug importation last year, was allegedly caught with Anabolic steroids by specialist detectives from the State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad earlier this year.

Court documents obtained by The Telegraph reveal he was charged with possessing a prohibited drug in Condell Park between 11.57am and 2.19pm on April 22 this years.

They allege he “did have in his possession a prohibited drug … 4 x glass ampoules labelled ‘Alphabolin Methenolone Enanthate” which is a well-known steroid.

He was due to front Bankstown Local Court on November 4.
