A former Nomads bikie and cousin to Sydney’s well-known Ibrahim family, Moudi Tajjour, has paid tribute to slain underworld figure Mejid Hamzy.
Hamzy — the brother of convicted murderer and gang boss Bassam Hamzy — was shot dead this morning outside his home on Simmat Ave in Condell Park.
Tajjour, who served more than four years jail for manslaughter, said he shared a jail cell with Mejid Hamzy for seven months before Tajjour’s release in 2010.
“RIP to Mejed legit this bloke was one off (sic) a kind. Haven’t seen him in a while was cell mates for 7 months back in the day and known him many years,” Tajjour wrote on social media.
“Honestly a soldier and a true gentleman was extremely upsetting to see his name in paper today I can’t imagine what the family is going threw (sic).
“But my love is with them and may Allah have mercy on this brothers soul … RIP habib inshallah Allah forgives all ur sins what ever they may have been. PAYBACK FEARS AS TWO KILLERS GUN DOWN HAMZY BROTHER
Two killers lay in wait this morning outside a western Sydney home shooting dead the brother of notorious murderer Bassam Hamzy as he emerged into his front yard, police have said.
Police and paramedics swarmed Simmat Ave, Condell Park about 7.30am to reports shots had been fired.
Mejid Hamzy, aged in his early 40s, had been shot multiple times. Police believe he stumbled about 100m around the corner into Curtis Place where he collapsed and died.
Bassam Hamzy is a convicted murderer who once led the deadly Brothers For Life gang and is now serving time at Goulburn Supermax.
Bankstown Police Acting Superintendent Darren Sly said police were alive to the prospect of retaliation for what appeared to be a planned hit.
“Police are always worried in circumstances like this where we have a public shooting, that there could be repercussions but certainly police will make all their efforts to try and stop it if we can,” Supt Sly said.
“It would appear that those two males … have been waiting for the male to leave his house this morning, so certainly we would say at this early stage that it was a targeted shooting.”

A short time after the shooting a burnt-out car was on a Yagoona street.
“At this stage we’re still trying to determine if there are any links to the shooting,” Supt Sly said.
Supt Sly said police and paramedics could do nothing to save Mejid Hamzy this morning.
“On arrival we located a male with multiple gunshot wounds despite the efforts of emergency services the male died at the scene,” Supt Sly said.
“Police take this type of crime very seriously and we’ll be doing everything we can to try and identify who (did this) are and put them before the court.
“You can’t get anything worse I don’t believe, the shooting of another human being, those people who are prepared to do that are certainty the a type of person we don’t want in our society.”
Neighbours said they heard between five and seven shots before hearing a car drive off.
A resident, who wished to remain anonymous due to fear of retribution, said crimes are common on the street.
“There wasn’t a lot of noise this morning, there were just the shots and cars driving,” he told The Daily Telegraph.
“It used to be a really nice area here but now it has become a zoo. There are drug dealers and drug addicts everywhere. I have been here for almost 40 years and now I’m finally considering moving.”
Distraught relatives gathered in a park opposite the murder scene today where they learnt what had happened.
“I didn’t know. I’ve just come straight here,” one relative said.
“We only saw each other last night.
“He was a really nice man.”
A woman living on nearby Jocarn Ave said she had become suspicious of activity in the neighbourhood recently.
“My husband heard the ambulance. We’ve been living here since 2016. This side is quiet. But the park near [the shooting] … you see a lot of people coming in and out. It would be great if they put up some security cameras,” she said.
“I haven’t seen anything happen but there is always cars coming in and driving away so it looks a bit suspicious.
“You’ve always got to be careful. I feel like these are targeted attacks.”
Police seized a black Toyota Hilux as evidence from Curtis Place today as detectives canvassed nearby businesses for CCTV which may have captured the getaway car.
