Drug cook arrested again over alleged clandestine lab

Two years ago, a Mount Hunter drug cook spent days in hospital being treated for exposure to dangerous chemicals in his backyard lab. Now he is behind bars, accused of manufacturing drugs at another lab while on bail.

Two charged after 4.5kg of MDA uncovered

A drug cook who was behind the one of the biggest MDMA labs in NSW history has allegedly been up to his old tricks.

The 41-year-old had enjoyed three months freedom on bail before he was arrested last Wednesday over links to a large drug lab and 4.5 kilograms of MDA in Sydney’s southwest.

NSW Drug and Firearm Squad officers uncovered the drug cooking operation inside a factory at Moorebank after arresting the man, who can’t be identified for legal reasons, during a vehicle stop on Wednesday morning.

More than 200 items, including chemical precursors, glassware and solvents, were seized.

Police also raided his old haunt at Mount Hunter, west of Campbelltown.

Two years ago, police uncovered a sprawling drug laboratory inside a shed on the Mount Hunter property that took four days to pull apart.

At the time police said it was one of the largest MDMA labs they’d ever come across and believed it was producing kilograms of drugs for dance festivals around Sydney.

In late 2018, the man spent days in hospital being treated for exposure to the dangerous chemicals involved in manufacturing the MDMA.

Earlier this year he pleaded guilty to multiple drug charges, including drug manufacture and precursor possession, and is due to face the NSW Supreme Court for sentencing in November.

He was released on bail with strict conditions banning him from living at the Mount Hunter property.

He had been living in Minto Heights when police arrested him last week.

Following the recent sting, he was charged with drug manufacture. He was refused bail to appear in Liverpool Local Court in September.
