Notorious Bra Boy Jai Abberton has allegedly attacked a man while his girlfriend threatened him with a stun gun at a home in Sydney’s east.
Abberton – one of four brothers behind the revered beach gang which first emerged in the 1990s – is accused of assaulting the man who the couple knew, in a home at Maroubra on October 23.
Police allege the 47-year-old former pro surfer, with his 33-year-old partner Kirri Argus, entered the home on Minneapolis Crescent, Maroubra with the intention of assaulting the occupant.
“Police will allege in court that the man assaulted another 47-year-old man and the woman threatened him with an electronic stun device,” NSW Police said in a statement.
On Saturday, three weeks after the alleged assault, Abberton allegedly damaged the roof of the same man’s Toyota Camry.
Police caught up with Abberton and Argus at his Maroubra flat on Sunday, charging him with five offences including common assault and entering a building with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Argus was charged with attempting to stalk/intimidate and entering a building with intent to commit an indictable offence.
The couple were each granted conditional bail in Waverley Local Court on Monday and ordered to report daily to Maroubra Police Station.
Abberton and Argus were also told to strictly comply with an Apprehended Violence Order which police took out to protect the man from the couple.
Abberton and his brothers – Koby, Sunny and Dakota - stormed into national folklore in 2007 when Russell Crowe narrated a documentary on the Bra Boys, its hard-partying members and their conflict with authorities.
Abberton’s involvement with police before and since the brief family stardom has been well publicised.
He was jailed for nine months in 2012 for assaulting police in Byron Bay.
Abberton and Argus are due to return to court on November 26.
