Jai Abberton: Bra Boy fails to turn up for court over drug charge
Bra Boy Jai Abberton is no stranger to the courtroom. However, he failed to attend after another run in with cops in his native Maroubra. But that didn’t stop a magistrate dishing out his punishment.

A high-profile Bra Boy and former professional surfer failed to show up to a court apperance following another run in with police.
Jai Abberton, 46, from Maroubra, is one of the founders of the surf gang which rose to prominence in 2007 following the release of a Russell Crowe-narrated documentary featuring Jai and brothers Koby, Sunny and Dakota.
He was due to face Waverley Local Court on Wednesday but failed to turn up.
Magistrate Greg Grogin convicted him in his absence for one charge of possess prohibited drug.
Magistrate Grogin read out the police facts in court, which stated Abberton was riding a bicycle in Maroubra without a helmet on when he was stopped early last year by police.
Police found a small amount of cannabis in his possession inside a cigarette packet.
Magistrate Grogin stated Abberton became “irate” with police during the encounter, referring to the police facts.
He convicted Abberton in his absence and fined him $330.
Magistrate Grogin also read out a long list of his previous offences which included malicious wounding, assaulting and resisting police, intimidation, and affray.
In 2005, Abberton was found not guilty of murdering a standover man Tony Hines.
