Bob Hawke’s youngest daughter, who claimed he tried to hush up her rape, has settled a multimillion-dollar claim on the former prime minister’s estate out of court.
Rosslyn Dillon, 59, lodged the $4 million claim on her father’s fortune last December after she was left with $750,000 following his death at 89 in May last year.
In an affidavit filed to the NSW Supreme Court, Ms Dillon claimed she was allegedly raped by the late Labor MP Bill Landeryou while working for him in the early 1980s but was told by Mr Hawke not to report it because he did not want to jeopardise his tilt for the party’s leadership.
Mr Hawke was elected prime minister in 1983 and went on to become one of Australia's most successful leaders.
A NSW Supreme Court spokeswoman confirmed to The Daily Telegraph yesterday the matter had been settled out of court, but would not say how much money Ms Dillon ended up receiving.
“The judge was advised (on Thursday) that the matter had resolved and (he) would be considering the settlement documents in chambers (on Friday),” she said. “There are no formal orders available as yet … the settlement would be confidential.”
Most of Mr Hawke’s estate went to his second wife Blanche d’Apulget, 76, who was diagnosed with breast cancer two months ago.
Labor leader Anthony Albanese said he was pleased the dispute had been resolved.
“His family deserve to have his legacy honoured and it is good that any outstanding issues have been resolved.”
