A man has allegedly told police he locked his girlfriend outside on their hotel balcony minutes before she fell to her death.
Police were called to the Hyatt Regency in Sydney’s CBD at 8pm on Friday after reports a woman had fallen from a 10th floor balcony.
The woman’s body was found on the level one rooftop of the five-star hotel on Sussex St.
She was identified yesterday as a 45-year-old woman from the Sutherland Shire.
She was staying at the hotel for the night with her partner, who ran down to reception and raised the alarm with hotel staff.
A staff member then called triple-0.
The 48-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Day St police station in Sydney CBD for questioning.
It is understood he told police that the couple had been arguing earlier in the night and he locked the woman outside on the hotel balcony.
The man then claimed he returned to the balcony after a short time and the woman was gone.
He was released without charge in the early hours of Saturday morning pending further inquiries.
Detectives are looking into the couple’s history, which sources confirmed includes reported incidents of domestic violence and mental health concerns.
Forensic police returned to the hotel room yesterday to fingerprint the balcony railing.
