A 27-year-old woman has been charged and a major manhunt is underway after a man was shot in the foot in western Sydney overnight.

Emergency services were called to Lawson St, Lalor Park, about 11pm Saturday following reports that a man had been injured in a shooting.

Officers from the Blacktown Police Area Command found a 27-year-old man at the scene with a gunshot wound to his right foot.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

Police spoke with a man and woman at the scene and were told a third man fled on foot.

The woman, from Blackett, was arrested and later charged with possessing ammunition without holding a licence/permit/authority and hindering an investigation into a serious indictable offence.

Police will allege in court she concealed a discarded firearm magazine following the shooting.

A crime scene was established and police canvassed the area with assistance from the Dog Unit and Pol Air but the man who ran away could not be found.

A second crime scene was established at a nearby home on Mitchell St after a firearm was found behind a shed.

The woman was refused bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on August 1.
