A woman has been charged after more than $50,000 worth of luxury designer items were stolen from a jewellery store at Sydney Airport.

Australian Federal Police were called in on January 9 when a luxury airport store made a complaint alleging items had been stolen by an employee.

Police later searched a Kingsgrove home and allegedly found four bracelets, three pens, two lighters, two bracelet keys, a pair of earrings, a wallet, a candle, a light and a men’s pendant.

The items are worth $50,225.

Investigators also seized a Sydney Airport visitor pass, an Australian passport and two electronic devices which will be subject to forensic examination and further investigation.

Chantelle Carrington, 39, was arrested at the home and charged with larceny by clerks or servants, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment.

She sought an adjournment for legal advice and a bail variation.

Carrington said reporting to police every day was difficult because she was a full-time mother and was also studying full-time, adding it was “difficult” to meet the commitment.

She was told her bail could not be changed today and she would have to file an application before the case was adjourned to February 26.

Carrington’s public Instagram and TikTok accounts list her as a “musician” while her LinkedIn account said she worked as a client advisor at Ascot Diamonds in New York City from 2020 to July 2023 and at Giorgio Armani in the five years prior in Sydney.

She also has a business called Luxe Mecca, which ASIC records show she registered in July last year.

AFP Detective Superintendent Morgen Blunden said officers are committed to the safety and security of all major Australian airports, irrespective of the crime type.

“This woman allegedly abused her position within the airport terminal for personal gain,” Supt. Blunden said.

“The AFP has a positive working relationship with airport businesses to prevent, detect and respond to this type of activity.

“Due to the co-operation of the store, as well as our longstanding partnership with Sydney Airport Corporation, we were able to resolve this matter swiftly which is a testament to our working relationships.”

“We’d like to thank the AFP for their commitment to resolving this matter swiftly, and our airport operations team and retail tenant for their collaborative efforts which contributed to the positive outcome.”
