A western Sydney rapper has been charged over his alleged involvement in a brawl at a popular CBD venue last month, with footage of the high-profile performer allegedly in the midst of the scuffle going viral on social media.
Australian drill artist Simeona Malagamaalii – known in the music industry as “Hooligan Hefs”— has been named as one of the men allegedly at the centre of a brawl at Sydney’s The Ivy precinct on February 25.
A 23 – year old man was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital following the fight, suffering a number of facial injuries including a cut to his left eye and a concussion, but has since been released.
“Just before 6pm on Sunday 25 February 2024, officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command responded to reports of a brawl at a licensed premises on George Street,” a police statement said of the incident.
“Police have been told a number of men were involved in the fight before security intervened.”
Specialist police investigating the brawl arrested 26-year-old Malagamaalii at Sydney Airport on Sunday morning.
He was taken to Mascot Police Station where an arrest warrant for affray was executed, before he was charged with affray.
A social media snap of the 26 year-old from the night of the alleged incident shows him posing with a group of other men at the venue. It’s not alleged the group were involved in the incident.
Wild video footage of the fight – which features the Tell Em I’m Doing Eetswa rapper, has been surfacing and circulating on social media platforms including TikTok and Instagram throughout the month.
The clip opens with a man standing at the edge of the rowdy pack, before pushing and swinging at another man surrounded by the group.
Another man can be seen punching the first man, now lying on the ground and stomping on him.
Malagamaalii can then be seen being held back by a venue security guard before lunging at the man on the ground.
Footage also shows Malagamaalii standing with his shirt unbuttoned, with a security guard and a woman who are both holding him back.
The pair can be seen shouting and pointing at each other.
Amid the chaos, which spills outside the camera’s view, a man in a black shirt, is seen punching another in the head, before another man hits the same man, sending him falling backwards into the pool.
Security stand over the man, shoving others away as they try to approach while the man, drenched with water, slowly tries to get to his feet.
The last moments of the vision show staff trying to help the man to his feet as he crawls away form the pool, his clothes drenched.
It is not yet known what sparked the incident, but police confirmed they are now investigating and working to identify the people involved.
Malagamaalii was granted conditional bail and is due to front Downing Centre Local Court on April 10.
The Pool Club is owned by pub baron Justin Hemmes as part of his Merivale empire.
The venue is described on its website as “a little slice of heaven inspired by the Italian coastline”.
The Daily Telegraph has contacted Malagamaalii for comment.
