Wallsend man charged with attempted murder after alleged hit-and-run, assault in Cardiff

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a police probe into an alleged hit and run crash in Lake Macquarie.
The man 24, will face court on Sunday, with police to allege he assaulted another man before striking him with a car and leaving the scene.
About 1.20am on Friday, emergency services were called to Harrison St, Cardiff, following reports a man had been found injured.
On arrival, officers located a 36-year-old man injured on the roadway.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains.
Initial inquiries suggested the man was struck by a car, which failed to stop.
Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation with the assistance of specialist officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit.
Following inquiries, police located the vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident on Devon St, Wallsend. It was seized for forensic examination.
At that time a man, 24, was arrested and taken to Waratah police station, where he was charged with a string of offences including attempted murder; dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous; fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.
