A teen has been charged after dashcam footage showing the moment a car narrowly misses multiple cars as it speeds along a busy road sparked a police search.

A teen driver has been charged after video capturing a car in a frightening overtaking stunt on a busy expressway in Adelaide’s north led police to label the behaviour “inexcusable” and launch a search for the driver.

Terrifying footage, shared to Facebook by Dashcam Adelaide on Wednesday, caught the moment a blue Holden Commodore sedan, bearing P-plates, dangerously manoeuvres through three other vehicles on the two-lane Northern Expressway at Penfield Gardens.

A 19-year-old man from Elizabeth East handed himself in to a Holden Hill police station after police received the dashcam footage and identified the vehicle.

He was reported for dangerous driving, immediately lost his licence for 12 months and the car was impounded for 28 days.

During the June 5 incident, dashcam shows the car approaching vehicles ahead at a much higher speed, slipping between two other cars.

The speeding car then weaves into the left lane and powers through a slim gap between the other vehicles, one that’s hauling a caravan.

... and then overtakes another, narrowly slipping back into the right-hand lane ...

... before nearly losing control.

Seconds later, as the car swerves back into the right lane – narrowly avoiding a collision with the caravan – and nearly fishtails and loses control.

The car then drives off at a high speed.

The footage has gone viral, and been viewed more than 600,000 times.

Before the man handed himself in, a spokesman for SA Police condemned the driver’s actions, during the initial investigation after police first received the footage.

“This type of driving is inexcusable, and shows a complete disregard for themselves and other road users,” the spokesman said.

The 19 year old is expected to appear in court at a later date.
