The parents of a 14-year old boy and his older brother charged with the stabbing death of an Easter show worker say they are “deep in shock” that two of their sons have been accused of murder.

The boy, who is in Year 9 at a western Sydney school, and his 18-year-old brother were among three people charged over the brutal death of Uati ‘Pele’ Faletolu, 17.

Uati, who was due to become a dad for the first time, suffered a fatal stab wound to the chest during an altercation between rival gangs at the Sydney Easter Show on April 11.

Speaking just after she had been at church, a sister of the two brothers told The Daily Telegraph the murder charges had left the “very religious” family reeling.

“It’s really hard for my parents … it’s not one (son) charged, it’s two,” the young woman said.

“They are good kids … people mightn’t see the good stuff, but they are (good).”

She said the teenagers lived at home with their parents and siblings, and the first the family knew of the arrests was when police came knocking to inform them.

It took homicide investigators three months to lay the charges after they were met with a ‘wall of silence’ during the investigation.

NSW Police acting Assistant Commissioner Jason Weinstein said police will allege the youngest of the trio charged was responsible for inflicting the fatal stab wound, and that the group acted in a “joint criminal enterprise”.

Police arrested the 18-year-old brother last Wednesday at Schofields train station, while he was on his way home from working at a relatives’ construction business.

Another man, also 18, was arrested last Saturday at a house in Shalvey and refused bail. He is due to face Parramatta Children’s Court today charged with murder.

The 14-year-old was pictured topless and wrapped in a velour dressing gown when Raptor Squad officers swooped on him in the passenger seat of a BMW SUV on Friday afternoon at Arndell Park, about 2.30pm.

A third male – aged 14 – was arrested by investigators and the Raptor Squad in Arndell Park on Friday.

“He was doing a food run … I think he’d just woken up and they were going to get food,” his sister said.

The breakthrough in the investigation was of “some comfort” to Uati’s mother Janice Faletolu and his pregnant partner Taylor Piliae, who is due to give birth in the next few months.

“It doesn’t bring Pele back, does it, but they’re happy to know finally someone has been charged.” a relative of Mrs Faletolu said.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Weinstein said the arrests were the result of painstaking work by investigators, and it was possible more charges would be laid.

“There are still other individuals who we know that were party to this offence, we continue to conduct investigations with the ultimate aim of still identifying those other offenders,” he said.
