A firefighter from the state’s central west has been charged with murder after he allegedly caused a horrific car crash that claimed the life of his estranged wife.
Troy Armstrong was charged while in hospital at Royal North Shore on Friday, after the crash triggered a major domestic violence investigation.
Kristy Armstrong, 36, died instantly when police allege Mr Armstrong ran her car off the road in Molong on June 9.
Two other passnegers in the vehicle sustained minor injuries.
Mr Armstrong was freed from the mangled wreckage of his vehicle, which police allege crashed into her before coming to rest along the roadway.
The retained firefighter was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney in a critical condition.
NSW Police launched a major domestic violence investigation, with the help of the homicide squad, and charged Mr Armstrong with murder, and two counts of attempted murder on Friday.
Mr Armstrong remains in hospital under police guard, with his case mentioned ar Parramatta Bail Court for the first time on Saturday.
He did not appear in the court, and the matter was adjourned until July 11.
The court heard that once he is well enough for release, he will be taken into a jail setting while on remand.
