A man made inappropriate comments about a young girl moments before he was murdered inside a home in Sydney’s west on Saturday night, police allege.
Ashley “Shazy” Mundy was well known to locals on Ellsworth Drive in Tregear, meaning they were shocked to find NSW Police detectives at their door on Sunday morning to tell them he was dead.
Mr Mundy, 32, was allegedly murdered by Dylan Aldred, an 18-year-old man who had been living with him in the weatherboard home.
Police allege prior to his death Mr Mundy made comments about a young woman known to Aldred.
Police sources said Aldred and another teenager Dylan Thompson, 19, who was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm over the incident, had been known to live transiently in the area.
A 16-year-old girl was also charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm over the incident.
Police detectives and forensic specialists in white hazmat suits removed Mr Mundy’s body from the residence on Sunday afternoon as they continued to investigate the scene.
RSPCA inspectors also arrived at the home to help police remove two black and white dogs from the backyard.
A neighbour on the street said Mr Mundy was a “good guy”, but that “day and night” there were constantly people coming and going from the home.
“About three weeks ago these young guys moved in,” she said.
“I heard a massive fight a couple of days ago between a guy and a girl and the guy was screaming ‘I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe’.”
A friend of Mr Mundy said he had lived in the house for around two years and had a son he would visit who lived with his mother.
“I really feel for his son. He is around seven,” the friend said.
“I am shocked. He was a good guy.”
In a statement, NSW Police said they had been told he was “injured during a physical altercation” at the home.
Mr Mundy was found unresponsive in a bedroom with NSW Ambulance paramedics unable to revive him and a crime scene established.
Strike Force Armine was established to investigate the man’s death, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
The trio of Aldred and Thompson will spend the night in custody before facing Parramatta Local Court on Monday, while the 16-year-old is due to appear before a children’s court.
A post mortem examination will be conducted to confirm the cause of death.
